Big River Foods

Minnesota Food Association’s newest program is Big River Foods, a unique distribution service, delivering product that is fresh, local, and honest.

What is Our Mission?

  • Help new immigrant and aspiring farmers
  • Support our local economy
  • Advocate for good environmental decisions
  • Promote healthy social change to our regional food system

What Do We Want To Do?

  1. We want to eliminate language and cultural barrier for farmers wanting to find more markets, acting as a mediator between the buyer and the farmer.
  2. We also want to create a relationship between the buyer and farmer, telling the story about who grows the food we eat.
  3. We want to help train new farmers in producing healthy product that’s grown for the market.
  4. We want to stimulate the local economy, keeping our money in our community.
  5. We want to provide a quality, consistent product.
  6. We want to play our part in relocalizing our area’s food system—eliminating problems caused by industrial farming.

"We abuse the land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect."
