Volunteers Needed

Minnesota Food Association invites members to become volunteers.  We have numerous volunteer opportunities available and as our capacity grows, so will these opportunities.

Some of our volunteer opportunities are seasonal and others are year-round.  Most opportunities are Monday-Friday, with some occasional evening and weekend work.

Please email info@mnfoodassociation.org to indicate your willingness to help us out by volunteering in one or more of the areas described below.  Our needs change frequently, so please don't hesitate to contact us to find out what our current needs are.

Youth & Family Program Volunteer - 6-8 volunteers needed. Various Saturdays, 9am-12pm. Teach elementary-school aged kids and families about sustainable agriculture through fun, hands-on activities on the farm! This is a new program at MFA this season, and we are very excited about it! Volunteers must enjoy working with children, be able to follow a lesson plan, and not afraid of animals or getting dirty. Training will be provided. This is a Saturday morning position, and we request a commitment to at least 2 Saturdays per season. All programming takes place on the farm.

This volunteer will be responsible for conducting EBT transactions for the new Healthy Meals in a SNAP! program, which provides discounted CSA boxes in combination with a healthy cooking class through a partnership with Urban Oasis. This opportunity will be located in East St. Paul, and will be a commitment of approximately one hour on the same time and day each week for the duration of the CSA (mid-June through October). These bikes were donated last season and are extremely helpful for farmers as they travel to and fro around the farm. This can be a one-time volunteer opportunity, or a monthly commitment, depending on volunteer capacity.

Help advanced farmers in our program develop engaging marketing materials, including signs, packaging, business cards, logos, brochures, etc. Must have design and marketing experience, and be comfortable working one-on-one with diverse farmers of varying English levels. This position is on an as-needed basis, but volunteers must be able to finish each project by an established deadline.
Field Work Volunteer - 2-4 volunteers needed. Help MFA and our farmers plant, weed, and harvest our produce! This can be done on a once-a-month, weekly, or as-needed basis. Must be willing to get dirty, work outside, and interact with farmers of various languages and cultures.
Events Volunteer - 4-8 volunteers needed. Help us with special event set up, registration, traffic direction, serving, kid's activities, cooking, clean up, etc. Specific needs vary by event, including our open house, on-farm dinners, and harvest party.

Must be outgoing and friendly, willing to learn about MFA, our programs, and mission, and able to transport and carry tabling supplies (up to 25 lbs).

Grants Volunteer - 1 volunteer needed. Assist MFA in fund development by researching grant opportunities. Research giving priorities, provide recommendations on which grants to pursue, and assist in project proposal development. Must be willing to learn about MFA's mission, values, and vision, able to think creatively "outside the box," proficient in internet research, and have an interest in grant writing/fund development.
