Mission Statement

Our mission is to build a more sustainable food system. We seek to impact the local food production, grow more sustainable food producers, and enhance their connections to markets and resources. We do our work in the St. Croix River Valley and the Twin Cities Metro Area of Minnesota.

Focus of Programs

Providing education, training and technical assistance in sustainable farming, marketing, business planning, identification and use of resources.

Building partnerships, with funding sources, government and university agencies, nonprofit organizations, businesses and individuals to increase public awareness through communication, public events and farm visits.

Marketing directly with consumers through operating a CSA (Community
Supported Agriculture) and retail and wholesale accounts and connecting farmer trainees with their own markets.

Highlights of our Programs

Minnesota Food Association is the only organic-certified, immigrant producer training program in Minnesota.

MFA is an “on the ground” organization operating first from the perspective of the “land”.

MFA’s program Big River Farms has relationships and credibility with restaurants, retail grocers, individual subscribers, and farmers’ markets for building our training participants' financial sustainability.

MFA has working relationships with ethnically diverse communities of farmers.

MFA has a good reputation in the local food, local farming, and non-profit community.
